How to Get Glowing Skin
Dr Pyal Patel AKA The Blushing Doc is a NHS GP specialising in Dermatology. Read on for her top tips for glowing skin this spring…
For me, glowing skin is healthy skin. Healthy skin needs to be well hydrated, well nourished (both from the inside and out) and cared for with a good skincare routine.
Here are the top 5 things to consider when working towards healthy, glowing skin:
Nutrition & Lifestyle
It’s important to have a balanced healthy diet, plenty of fluids, and enjoy regular exercise.
Sleep
Beauty sleep is real! Enjoy 7-8 hours of sleep a night to aid skin health. Your skin makes new collagen while you sleep!
Exfoliating products
Skincare ingredients that help break the bonds between dead skin cells and your skin will help reveal brighter, younger looking skin. This includes AHAs and BHAs such as glycolic acid, lactic acid and salicylic acid. When used regularly chemical exfoliators can help maintain healthy, glowing skin.
Topical retinol
It is now a known fact that topical retinol helps with skin cell turnover. A high skin cell turnover will mean the newer skin cells come to the surface faster, giving that fresh faced glow for longer.
Hydration
Use a good moisturiser that is right for your skin type Applying regular moisturisers or emollients are a great way of locking in moisture and keeping skin hydrated. And well moisturised, hydrated skin definitely glows!
Above all, care for yourself, from the inside and out. Remember to check in on your mental health, as this can sometimes have a direct effect on our skin health. A happy you means a healthy you.
